What the free trial actually allows

Every feature, with nine separate allowances. The trial is not a cut-down build and it is not time-limited. Nothing expires after a fortnight. What it has instead is a count against each of the things worth trying, and when a count is used up, that one thing stops while the rest carry on.

A paid plan — monthly, yearly or lifetime — removes all nine. There is no middle tier and no per-feature purchase.

Things worth knowing before you start

• The counts are of what you have used, not of what you still have. Deleting a collage does not give the collage back, so a trial spent on test material is a trial partly spent.
• Reinstalling does not reset the file allowance. The count of photos and videos fixed is held centrally against your key, so it survives a reinstall, a fresh Windows install and a new copy of the app.
• A trial Fix needs a connection. The run is refused rather than allowed offline. See why a trial Fix needs a connection.
• The web demo is a proof of concept, not a repair. It accepts one ZIP file of up to 200 MB and nothing else — not loose photos, not a folder, not a drive. The desktop trial is the one that takes a real library.

Devices and licenses

A license key is the only credential in PDR. There is no account, no username and no password. You get a key when you start a trial or buy a plan, you activate it on a PC, and that PC takes one of the key’s slots.

Buying and activating are two different moments, and the one that starts the clock is the purchase. A monthly or yearly subscription runs from the day you pay for it — that is the date your renewal is measured from. Activating the key on a PC is a separate step you take whenever suits you: it unlocks the app on that machine, and it does not start, pause or extend the subscription. Installing a week later does not buy you an extra week. A lifetime license has no period to start, and the free trial is not timed at all — it is counted in usage rather than days, so an unactivated trial key is still worth the same months from now.

• At once, not ever. The limit is concurrent activations. A machine you have finished with should be removed rather than left occupying a slot, and then the slot is free again.
• Moving to a replacement PC is a supported thing to do. Remove the old device from Manage Devices, activate the same key on the new one, and reconnect your Library Drive. Step by step: moving to a new PC.
• Removing a device frees the slot; it does not reach the old machine. Nothing is uninstalled there and no photos or libraries are deleted.

Manage or cancel your subscription

Monthly and yearly subscriptions are canceled from inside PDR, and you do not need to email anyone to do it. A lifetime license is a one-off payment, so there is nothing to cancel.

• Click Licensed in the title bar. It sits on the right, beside the theme and help buttons, and shows the state of your license.
• Choose Cancel subscription. It is in the License panel that opens, under Manage Devices.
• Confirm with your license key. Follow the prompts through to the end — the key is asked for so that nobody but you can stop your subscription.

PDR then confirms with Subscription canceled, and the app tells you plainly what that means: “Your subscription has been canceled and will not renew. You can keep using Photo Date Rescue until the end of your current billing period.” The app also shows the date your access ends, so you are never guessing.

Canceling stops the renewal. It is not the same as asking for money back, which is a separate question answered under payment, tax and refunds and in the refund policy; the commercial terms are in the terms of service. If you stop paying, or go offline

Your photos are yours either way. PDR writes ordinary files to folders you choose and keeps its library on your own PC, so nothing about a lapsed subscription takes a photograph away from you. What lapses is access to the premium features, not access to your own work.

• Seven days between successful license checks. PDR re-checks quietly at launch. If it cannot reach the service — no connection, a firewall, an outage — it falls back to the result it already has and carries on for a full seven days before premium features lock.
• Past that point, premium features lock until the next successful check. Your library, your photos and everything you have already produced are untouched.
• A lifetime license never expires. It bypasses the grace calculation entirely, so a lifetime key keeps working offline indefinitely.
• Reports History and Memories keep working whatever the license state.

Payment, tax and refunds

• Lemon Squeezy is our merchant of record. They handle billing, receipts and tax collection, and prices are listed in the currency shown at checkout.
• Tax is added at checkout, not shown above. As merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy determines and collects any applicable VAT, GST or sales tax based on your location.
• Refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of purchase. Approved refunds are processed by Lemon Squeezy.
• The free trial exists so you do not have to gamble. Dissatisfaction with results after full processing is not a refund reason, because both the web demo and the desktop trial let you see the result on your own photos first, at no cost and without a card.

What you need to run it

PDR runs on Windows 10 and 11. A macOS release is targeted for Q4 2026, potentially Q1 2027 — a target window, not a guaranteed date, and no plan on this page entitles you to it. The web demo runs in a browser on any platform, within the limits above.

Pricing questions

Is the free trial time-limited?

No. It has nine usage allowances instead of a clock, so it does not expire after a fortnight and an unused trial is still there months later.

Do I need a credit card to try it?

No. Neither the web demo nor the desktop trial asks for a card, and there is no account to create — a license key is the only credential PDR has.

Which plan is cheapest for me?

It depends on how long you need it rather than how much you have to fix, because none of the paid plans caps how much you fix. The plan recommender on the home page works it out from three questions and shows the arithmetic it used.

Does a bigger photo library cost more?

No. The allowances are on the free trial only. A paid plan is the same price whether you fix a thousand photos or half a million.

Can I use one license on my desktop and my laptop?

Yes. Monthly and yearly cover three computers at once, lifetime covers five, and the free desktop trial covers two.

What happens to my photos if I cancel?

Nothing. PDR writes ordinary files to folders you chose and keeps its library on your own PC. Premium features lock; your photographs, dates, albums and anything you have already made stay exactly where they are.

Do you offer a discount for upgrading to lifetime?

There is no upgrade path or credit for what you have already paid on a subscription. Lifetime is $199 whenever you buy it.
