What kind of storage, backup, editing and printing to look for once your photo library has been repaired — and how to tell which kind you actually need.
PDR runs on Windows. Any Mac, iPhone or web steps below are only for getting your photos out first — you then bring the exported folder into Photo Date Rescue on your Windows PC.

Suits small to medium libraries. Every major phone and desktop platform sells one.
What to look for: a paid tier large enough for the whole library rather than a free allowance you will outgrow; versioning, so a deletion or a corruption can be undone; and an export route out, because a plan you cannot leave is not storage, it is a tenancy.
Strengths: automatic sync, easy sharing, searchable from any device.
Weakness: the price per terabyte is the highest of the three, and it recurs forever.
Well suited to home users with 20–200k photos, and the lowest cost per terabyte you can buy outright.
What to look for: capacity of at least twice the library, since a repair writes a corrected second copy; an SSD if you will work directly off it, a mechanical HDD if it is only holding an archive; and a bus-powered enclosure if it has to travel. Choosing a Library Drive goes through this in detail.
Strengths: fast, cheap per terabyte, nothing to subscribe to.
Weakness: one device, one point of failure — it must itself be backed up.
A network drive with two or more bays, for libraries above roughly 100k photos or for anyone keeping family history for decades.
What to look for: at least two bays, so a failed disk can be replaced without losing anything; disks rated for continuous running; and a scheduled job that copies the share somewhere off-site. Remember that RAID protects against a disk dying, not against a deletion.
Strengths: survives a disk failure, one library for the whole household, reachable remotely.
Weakness: the highest cost to start, and it is a small computer you now maintain.
Your restored library should never live in only one place. The 3-2-1 principle is the long-established rule for keeping anything irreplaceable: 3 total copies, on 2 different storage devices or media, with 1 copy kept genuinely off-site.

The paid desktop applications that hold a catalog of the whole library and edit non-destructively, usually on subscription. Worth the money when you edit often and want every change reversible years later.
What to check before you commit: whether it writes changes into your original files or keeps them in its own catalog, and whether you can get your work back out if you stop paying. PDR itself never edits in place — it writes a corrected copy — so point a cataloging editor at the repaired library, not at the originals.
Every phone and every desktop photo application ships with one, and for cropping, straightening, exposure and color it is genuinely enough. Start here and pay for more only when you hit something it cannot do.
A separate category worth knowing about if your library contains scans: these enlarge, sharpen, de-noise and sometimes colorize. Judge one on a handful of your own worst photos before buying, because results vary enormously with the source.

Once PDR restores everything, many people want to create something meaningful. The services below are for what a desktop cannot do — putting the result on paper, on a wall or on a screen in another room.
Online printers that turn a folder of photos into a bound book, a calendar or a printed gift. They differ mostly in paper stock, binding, and how much of the layout they do for you.
What to look for: a service that accepts full-resolution uploads rather than downscaling them, and one that prints in your own country — shipping a book across a border often costs more than the book.
A screen that cycles through an album. The thing to check is how photos get onto it: a frame that only accepts its own cloud account ties part of your library to one manufacturer, where a frame that reads a USB stick or a network share does not.
For a wall print or a poster, a lab differs from a general gift service in two practical ways: the sizes and papers on offer, and whether the workflow is color-managed. Ask what resolution they want at your chosen size before you order, and ask whether they color-manage — a restored scan can look very different on paper.
What they do: upscale old scans, repair faded prints, remove noise, and colorize black-and-white photographs.
What to weigh up: these tools invent detail that was never in the original. That is fine for a print on the wall and wrong for an archive, so keep the untouched file as well as the enhanced one — which is exactly how PDR treats your originals.
What they do: produce new images from a description, for posters, stylized edits and social posts.
What to weigh up: the output is a new picture, not a restored one. It has no place in the family archive itself, and anything generated from a photograph of a living person deserves a moment's thought before it is shared.
